Happy Thanksgiving
I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and to mention a few things that I am thankful for. I do apologize that the only horrific element to this topic is the carnage I unleashed upon my waistline today.
I, like many people tend to dwell on the things that go wrong in life. As an aspiring and struggling writer and entrepreneur, I have had more than my share of roadblocks these last couple of years. Even though I have always kept my eyes on my goals and long-term vision, I have succumb to bouts of depression and feelings of hopelessness. I just try to remind myself of all the great successes people have had over the years who have struggled before finally making it. So today, I did take a personal accounting of what I had to be grateful for. I must admit, I initially had a hard time identifying what those things were. I guess a bit of a hangover from my funk.
First, I am thankful that I do live in a society where I can express myself freely on this blog and in the public square. I have the ability to create through writing and if I write something good, I will have the opportunity to find others that want to read it. I live in the land of opportunity, and that makes it possible to prosper when I create a product or service that enough people want to buy. In this society, I can keep the majority of the rewards I reap. I know that I must never take my freedom for granted.
I am also thankful for the fact that the U.S. has not been attacked like the poor people in Mumbai, India. The attack there particularly hit home since I have associations with some people there. A company I am affiliated with has a strong relationship with a group of programmers in Mumbai. They have been working with us for nearly two years and have become like an extended family. I have not met them personally but feel like I know them well by daily electronic communications. Needless to say, my heart sank when I heard about the attacks since it was very near to their offices and the train station that many of them use to commute. I am thankful to have learned earlier today that all in that group are OK. I feel for the hundred-plus people that were killed and the many more that have been kidnapped. I pray for their safety.
We should all be thankful for our freedom and must never allow it to be taken from us. I am grateful for the safety of our partners in India, they are doing an incredible job on our project. Happy Thanksgiving!
